Another big weekend of football for the Parrots saw our Under 18.5s battle it out under lights at Deloraine, our Women’s finish Round 19 with a convincing win, and our Reserves kick off their finals campaign in style with a huge Qualifying Final victory.
Under 18.5s - Round 16
The Under 18.5s travelled to Deloraine on Friday night and put up a strong fight before going down 52 to 38.
The young Parrots got off to a great start, taking a two-point lead into the first break. There was little separating the two sides throughout the first half, with Deloraine responding in the second quarter to take a narrow 31 to 29 lead into half time.
The game began to shift Deloraine’s way in the third term as they opened up an 11-point advantage. Bridgenorth continued to fight right through the final quarter, but couldn’t close the gap, with Deloraine eventually securing the 14-point win.

The Women’s side continued their fantastic season with a convincing 80 to 13 victory over Hillwood at Rocherlea.
Bridgenorth established the advantage early, leading 17 to 7 at the first break. The second quarter became more of a defensive battle, with the Parrots adding six points while keeping Hillwood scoreless to take a 16-point lead into half time.
After the break, Bridgenorth began to take control. Another scoreless quarter for Hillwood allowed the Parrots to extend their advantage to 36 points heading into the final term.
Then the floodgates opened.
Bridgenorth piled on 37 points in the final quarter to finish the game strongly and turn what had been a competitive first half into a commanding 67-point victory.
Emily McKinnell had a huge day in front of goal, finishing with six goals, while the Parrots once again had contributors across the ground.

The Reserves couldn’t have asked for a much better start to their finals campaign, overcoming an early deficit to defeat Lilydale 88 to 39 in Qualifying Final 1.
Lilydale came out firing and put the Parrots under pressure early, taking a 20 to 9 lead into quarter time.
But Bridgenorth’s response was huge.
The Parrots piled on 31 points in the second quarter while restricting Lilydale to 12, completely turning the game around to head into half time with an eight-point advantage.
From there, Bridgenorth took control.
The defensive effort after half time was outstanding, with Lilydale managing just one point in the third quarter as the Parrots extended their lead to 31. There was no slowing down in the final term either, with Bridgenorth adding another 24 points while allowing just six at the other end.
After trailing by 11 points at quarter time, the Parrots ultimately ran out 49-point winners. It was an impressive response and exactly the type of performance you want to see in finals football.
